Foxgloves have a long history of use in herbal medicine despite being highly poisonous. They are still used to make dioxin for heart medicine. Foxgloves have many names including Folk’s Gloves and Faery Bells hinting at their long association with the Faery Folk said to inhabit the meadows and woods.
The moth whose caterpillars eat foxglove plants is delightfully called Frosted Orange (Gortyna flavago) and I love the contrast of the warm orange tones with the pinky shades of the foxglove flowers.
