Growing Complexity

I have been working on my Underbrush picture for a few days now and keep adding and adding more layers to it, trying to get away from it’s rather sombre original colour scheme. I seem to be getting rather obsessed with using an ever increasing number of sequins in layers on it, overlapping them and putting more than one in the same spot so they look more textured. I was going to use loads of bronze and gold foil but that idea has been overtaken by all the sequins although I might add a bit on top of the hand-stitching…I like melting the sequins on with the iron because they go matt and have more subtle shades which is cool because I think sequins can look really garish and tacky at times. However, this technique is not really robust enough for work for sale and loads of them have dropped off during the subsequent handling while hand-stitching. So I’ve resigned myself to sewing them down and then melting them…have had to remember to use cotton thread otherwise that would have been a real waste of time eh? I love the effect of melted sequins on top of fabric aready sprayed or painted with metallic paint. I can’t work out why I’m so obsessed with sequins but I can’t help it! They are all over the place, even out in the awning! How did they get out there? Is anyone else as mad about them as me?

Will post some work in progress pics when I get back as I’m away at the mo.
